Final Project Personal Learning Network
It has been a pleasure to work with everyone in the PLN course. Thank you for sharing your learning experience with me. This course has provided me a platform from which to dive into exploring more of my personal learning network experience. Finding research articles and having them delivered to my inbox or reader for the first time was very exciting. Creating a Twitter account offered another avenue of finding more information which is enabling me as a teacher to find more valuable items related to my teaching field. The shortness and conciseness affords an opportunity to post items quickly for administrators which is great for schools that have a wide use of Twitter. I think that sharing the RSS feeds would be very valuable for my co-workers as they pursue advanced degrees, read professional readings, or just want to do more indepth studies. Whether it be professional or personal, I think that anyone on staff could benefit from RSS feeds. If I were a principal, I think that I would use a blog page format and have the faculty subscribe to the RSS feed and focus on subject matter that we have the greatest need for. I think I would call it the "Topic of the Month" and have an article of the month for my faculty. We could preread the article prior to grade level meetings and then have a discussion around that article. For my project, I have selected an area of greatest need for professional development and I will use podcasting similar to a slideshow format as an avenue to explore the topic of student data driving instruction. Since we have just implemented Star Literacy this year, I could possibly do some podcast focusing on Star Literacy. I am thinking that I could focus on student data, how to find that data for each student in the podcast, how to do progress monitoring and then share related instructional practices with the staff for professional development.

Blogging for Personal Learning Network
I am exploring how to expand my personal learning network. I hope that my blog page is helping you to learn about some of the activities that are happening in our classroom. Please sign up as a follower if you would like to receive updates as things happen in our classroom. That would really help me to know that you check the blog page for news and provide me with an incentive to post more frequently about daily events/news as it happens. Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to serve you. Jeannie Fine

Mrs. Fine's Kindergarten Class Blog
Blogging for my students is something new that I want to try. I have created a blog page for my class. I hope that all of my students can improve and grow in their reading and language skills by participating in a Kidblog page created just for my class. I think that this is a great way to provide more technology for my students. I am looking for more ways to find out more about my students and this is exciting. I hope we can use it to share what we are learning in science and math.
Happy blogging to all of my students! See you on our blog page.
If you would like to start your own teacher blog page for your students, please visit the Kidblog page. They have a blog page with some great information if you would like to visit their blog page. Karen Davison, a teacher from Vermont, offers these tips from her kindergarten students: My students came up with the following blogging tips:

The Kissing Hand
This week was a busy week. We listened to The Kissing Hand. The story is about Chester Raccoon and he leaves his mother to start to school. We made our handprints on a sheet that I made for the students. It was a great week. The students are doing a great job.
We read Silly Sally and Mrs. Wishy Washy. I have some character posters that we use for the characters in Mrs. Wishy Washy and we enjoyed acting for our classroom audience. On Friday, I brought my love cookies for the children. They seemed to really enjoy the cookies. I forgot to take my phone to snack and take pictures of the children during snack time. I will add some pictures of their handprints soon.

Pencil Can Project
I have recycled my coffee creamer containers as pencil cans for several years but I decided to decorate the containers to give them a nice touch instead of just writing broken pencils or sharp pencils on the outside of the container. I recycle the pencils so the student places the broken pencil inside the container and I bring the broken pencils home to sharpen.
I strip off the cover and wash the container in the dishwasher.
The flip top lid is easy for my kindergartners to push the pencil in and not spill. I have used the Clorox wipe containers but the lid does not work as well for my students.
This is the first one that I covered with scrapbooking paper that I had on hand. I put it on the table to dry as it has an umbrella rod to position it to air dry. I just used an equal part of water and Elmer's glue to adhere the paper to the container.
I tied a green ribbon and inserted some pencils just to get a feel for how it would look. Then I placed the lid on to see how that would look. I still need to spray with a polyurethane spray but that is locked up in my closet at school and the hall floors are being refinished so the finishing touch will have to wait until another day. So I had another sheet of scrapbooking paper and I tried it on another coffee creamer container. I spray painted the red lid black and added a red ribbon. The curvature of the container makes it a little tricky and I might need to spray the container to match the lid so that the white does not show up. The red ribbon has a few bubbles in it but I thought I would see how it looks after the polyurethane spray.
Here are the two containers ready to be finished with their polyurethane coats.
I may want to spray paint the next one and then stencil a design on it.

Erasing Mistakes on Laminated Name Plates
Do you ever have a short supply of laminated name tag plates and then make a mistake with a permanent marker? Thank goodness they are laminated. I left my Goo Gone at school and I had mistakes on some of the plates left from last year. So I tried Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and it works. Thanks, Mr. Clean. My name plates are finished without wasting the ones left over from "last year's mistakes". Another tip is to be sure that Mr. Clean sponge is not very damp, dry wipe with a clean cloth, and let the name plate air dry before marking on it again. The Sharpie Marker will not mark smoothly if the plate isn't dry.

Reading Invitation for the summer
Kim Arnold karnold@ccboe.org May 29 (8 days ago) to CCBOE Hi everyone, Day of Action will be held on June 21 at the Public Library located in town. I have attached a flyer and would like to encourage everyone to print the flyer and post it in your facility to help promote this event. Children, ages 3-12, are invited to come listen to volunteers read to them from 9-12N. I am also working on getting a clown there during part of the time. They will receive a $10 gift card from Deb’s Bookstore (one per family, while supplies last). This event is sponsored by Premier Bank. United Way creates opportunities by focusing on Education, Income and Health and Day of Action is a great occasion to promote Education. This is also a way for us to give back to the community. Please help me spread the word so parents and children can attend. Thank you, Jacqueline B. SchendelJacqueline B. The Lorax at home in the trees just down the hall from our classroom. Thank you to the wonderful mommy who did this for the kindergarten hallway! We appreciate you!
Dr. Seuss Week ended abruptly Friday with early dismissal at 12:00. The Cat in the Hat appeared at the gym. Thing One and Thing Two were seen scurrying around the campus as well. The Lorax made his home in the trees just down the hallway this week. We enjoyed drawing the Cat in the Hat this week. We graphed Green Eggs and Ham. Everyone loves ham but not everyone likes green eggs. We enjoyed having Mrs. Creel, a retired first grade teacher, read The Cat in the Hat to our class. We even had the Lorax visit the lunchroom. We put our Graph out in the hallway along with our Green Eggs and Ham pictures. We sang "Dr. Seuss, We Love You!" with the loudspeaker. We hope to reschedule our Wocket in the Pocket activity for a later date this month that we had planned. I included a picture of what the wocket activity would look like. I will post some more pictures when I get them loaded. We love Dr. Seuss! Happy Birthday!

Groundhog finger play
Little Groundhog
Little groundhog soft and furry (hide thumb in upright fist)
Tried to leave it's hole in a hurry (wiggle fist)
The first tunnel had a dead end (push thumb between third and fourth fingers)
The second had rocks in the bend (push thumb between second and third finger)
The third was not very wide (push thumb between first and second)
But the fourth opened to the outside (push thumb straight up)
Groundhog looked around shook his head (move thumb in circle, shake it)
Ran back in and went to bed! (return thumb to fist)
